Why Paleo?

Far from just a weight-loss plan, a paleo diet has been suggested to help with all kinds of things, from infertility to ADHD to autism. I'm no scientist, so I'm not going to attempt to delve too deeply into any of that. I will, however, share how a paleo lifestyle has benefitted my family.

Here are a few of the numerous reasons we love paleo:

1.

Real Food

2.

Mood regulation

3.

Better focus

4.

Relief from eczema

5.

Allergy reversal

6.

Help with sensory issues

7.

Relief from gastro/bloating issues

8.

Better sleep, more energy, weight management, etc.

First off, it's real food. No gimmicks; no obscure, Paleo-Diet-branded stuff you have to buy. It's all based on putting the cleanest possible food into your body--avoiding junk, maximizing nutrients--what's not to love?

Monster 1 deals with focus and attention issues. She literally used to get lost on the way to the shower when she was already in the bathroom. Grain-free, low-sugar breakfasts have been a GAME CHANGER.

The monsters and their momma are pretty unpleasant when we're on sugar, grains, and processed food. We are fragile, volatile, and and generally unpleasant to be around.

It's easy to see when our splurges go too far off course.

Monster 2's bad eczema cleared up during our first Whole30 and never came back. Monster 3's eczema returned when he was reintroduced to dairy after being dairy free for 2 years. Now it is well-controlled on a dairy-free paleo diet.

It Starts with Food lists allergy reversal as one of the potential effects of the Whole30. I thought this sounded bogus until Monster 3's dairy, egg, and cashew allergies were all reversed within two years while predominantly eating this way. Go gut health!

Monster 2 has sensory flare-ups that, among other things, make the way most clothes feel on his skin abnormally irritating, verging on unbearable. His flare-ups are much more prevalent when he veers from a strict paleo diet.

I had gastro issues my whole life--which I thought was totally normal, until I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance. Now I have discovered lactose is not the only culprit behind my tummy troubles. Paleo=happy belly.

We all simply FEEL BETTER.

'Nuff said, right?

Those are just the highlights for us. Your reasons or experience might look different. Perhaps paleo is not the right choice for you. But given that paleo is really just a framework of guidelines to be built upon, there just might be a version for everyone!
