Faith

Hey there! You may be wondering what this page is doing here and what faith has to do with anything on a paleo blog.

So here's the deal: This is not intended to be a "religious" blog. I want anyone and everyone interested in a paleo lifestyle or the casual paleo recipe to feel welcome and at home on these pages. But I am a Christian, and to me, faith has to do with EVERYTHING. So while I want to foster an atmosphere of coexistence and respect among people from all walks of life, I also want to take the opportunity to share my faith with anyone who might find their way to this page and take the time to read it.

Renowned magician (and atheist) Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller said something in a video post once that stuck with me:

I’ve always said that I don’t respect people who don’t proselytize. I don’t respect that at all. If you believe that there’s a heaven and a hell, and people could be going to hell or not getting eternal life, and you think that it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward, . . . how much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that? I mean, if I believed, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that a truck was coming at you, and you didn’t believe that truck was bearing down on you, there is a certain point where I tackle you. And this is more important than that.

You could say that this page is one way I'm trying not to be a hater.

So with all this in mind, here's what I believe:

I believe that I am a sinner and that Jesus died for me and for you and for anyone who is willing to receive His forgiveness so that our souls can have eternal life in His presence.

I believe there is nothing I can do to earn salvation on my own.

I believe that treating others with kindness and love is an expression of my thankfulness for His grace. This is flat-out hard because we are all flawed and live in a fallen world--but I believe we can all have hope in Him.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him." John 3:16-17 (NIV)

"But He [Jesus] was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27 (NIV)

"For it is by grace that you have been saved, though faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

"But the wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." James 3:17 (NIV)

"'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?' Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.'" Matthew 22:36-40 (NIV)

"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another," John 13:35 (NIV)

These are just a few of the verses from the Christian Bible that sum up my faith.

If you have been hurt or put off by the church or someone in it, I am so sorry. But I encourage you not to let broken people stand in the way of your relationship with a perfect Savior. I encourage you to pray, even if you don't know what to say. I encourage you to read the Bible, which you can do for free online here or here. I encourage you to find a church that welcomes you as you are and challenges you to grow in faith.
